I'd invest in an integrated transport system for the north that includes coastal shipping, rail and road. The $1.69 billion the National Government is spending on the holiday highway I'd prefer to see spent like this, 1. $500m on fixing black spots on SH1, 2. $500m on upgrading the Whangarei-Auckland line, 3. $100m on the Oakleigh-Marsden Point rail spur. 4. The remaining $599m used on a regional development fund to create jobs, wealth and opportunities in Te Tai Tokerau.
