Answer
The first thing that I would do if I was elected is to thank God, my electors, and to seek the advice of my leaders Phil Goff and Annette King as I want to be a worthy candidate for the people who have entrusted me to serve their best interests.
Hi Kyle
Thanks for sending me a question. I am campaigning in the Taupo Electorate for the party vote for ACT.
The biggest challenge we all face is getting our economy back on track. ACT is the right partner for National after this election to get us back on track!
I am asking people in this electorate to give their party vote to ACT on the 26th.
A Party Vote for ACT is a vote for:
- Lower taxes, less borrowing and reduced government spending
- Less bureaucracy by overhauling the Resource Management Act
- Protecting farmers from the ETS by excluding livestock emissions
- Zero tolerance for crime
Kyle - if you would like more information on ACT's policies you are welcome to contact me back or visit www.act.org.nz.
Kind Regards
Rosanne Jollands
Hi Kyle.
The first thing I would do would be to celebrate. But I do not think that is the answer you are looking for...
I would work to achieve the three priorities that myself and the rest of my Green colleagues have been campaigning for at this election.
- Bringing 100 000 children out of poverty by 2014
- Making our rivers clean enough to swim in again
- Stimulating thousands of smart green jobs
These three priorities would be the first thing on the agenda if I were elected in the Taupo electorate. Because these all apply to Taupo. There are high levels of poverty in the South Waikato, especially in Tokoroa and Putaruru. The Waikato river runs nearly the entire length of the electorate and has suffered from pollution. Taupo has just recently had the opening of the clean energy centre and this should expand so that Taupo is the clean energy capital of the world.
The way to help us achieve these objectives and make sure that we have a richer New Zealand is to party vote Green.

Thank you Kyle ,
MANA’s immediate focus is on the welfare of our families during Xmas and we have a critical concern for the poorer families and how they will deal with Xmas. 270,000 children live in poverty whilst 150 of the richest families profited $7 Billion dollars (and that’s untaxed).
I would like to share a Mana media release that was posted on our website mana.net.nz on the 16th of November, and this is why MANA is so angry at the current social injustice that we have in this country.
“MANA leader Hone Harawira says news that MP's have been awarded a 5% pay increase including a $5000 Christmas bonus has left him feeling sick in the stomach. Harawira says to see backbenchers getting an extra $7000 a year and the Prime Minister $11,000 must just leave those struggling totally despondent.
“I think of the thousands of people living in Te Tai Tokerau who struggle to pay their power bill, who can’t give their children a decent meal and who have no hope of saving for a deposit for a home.
“To accept this pay rise at a time when the poor of New Zealand are in financial strife as a result of the government's ‘take from the poor for the rich’ policies is a real kick in the guts for those who are struggling”.
"I will be donating my increase to one of the many voluntary organizations in my electorate of Te Tai Tokerau trying to help the poor the government has deserted and I call on all politicians to make a similar gesture”.
"When I called for everyone earning $30,000 a year to be given a one-off Christmas bonus, all the other politicians were silent.
“Those whose heads weren't completely in the sand knew how New Zealanders, struggling from the GST increase to fund national's tax gift to the rich, desperately needed it but weren't brave enough to back the call”.
"Now there can be no excuse for politicians whose pay rise has been back dated six months continuing to turn their backs on the needy."
Mr Harawira says it also makes a mockery of those MP's rejecting the minimum wage being immediately upped to $15 an hour.
"Politicians from the other parties who claim workers aren't worth a minimum of $15 an hour should be ashamed of themselves when they accept that they are going to be paid close to $70 an hour.
“The Prime Minister will be receiving close to $200 an hour and yet he has only offered a 25 cents pay rise to those who need the money the most”.
"It stinks and all I can say to those who I know are hurting is stop putting your hopes in those who have continued to let you down. MANA is the only party standing up for you. We have the team to represent you in the next Parliament but we need your party vote to do so."
Harawira says he cannot think of any more sickening news than this for the poor as Christmas approaches.” Hone Harawira 021865372”
We are a political movement that are planting a seed of social conscience in the hearts of New Zealanders and are making a stand to say “This is just not right!!”
Throw a party! If I'm elected as electorate candidate in Taupo that will be pretty stunning!!!
However if I do get elected through the party vote I will still consider myself as a Taupo district member as I do believe "to represent in parliament where one lives" as being a great honour....
Initially the supply agreement will be a big issue as I am keen to see our outdoor issues advanced.
The issue that continues to dominate conversations with constituents from one end of the Taupo electorate to the other is the economy.
Long-term economic growth is essential to create jobs, lift incomes, and raise living standards. We’ve improved the tax system and made it fairer, boosted investment in infrastructure, cut red tape, and improved public services such as health and education. We’re also boosting science, driving innovation, and building trade agreements for our exporters. This work is already paying off. The economy has grown over the past two years, with 63,000 new jobs created.
The first thing I will do if I am re-elected will be to work with local economic development organisations to see what we can do to ensure that some of the additional jobs forecast in the next 3 years are here in our communities. Getting our young people into jobs will continue to be a priority.
