Stephen Greenfield. I was born in Wellington in 1944 and educated there for the first 12 years before shifting to the Cook Islands for 3 years and settled in Canterbury in 1959. I worked for the Union Steamship Company for 9 years including 6 years at sea as a Purser on Interisland, South Pacific, and South Asia routes then  Air New Zealand for a year. I moved to Auckland in 1970 where I have been  happily domiciled ever since, mostly living in the CBD.   I have always had a fascination with the world and the way it functions and since 1970 have spent some 40 years organising, promoting, and escorting tours to over 60 countries, and observing the way the world functions. This included pioneering tours into China in 1975 and leading many tours to the Middle East. I was a private pilot for 20 years, developed a luxury rail service in the South Island in 1988, and have owned and operated my own tour vehicles in New Zealand. I have always had a strong social conscience and for the past 3 years

have worked part time for the Salvation Army at their Supportive Accommodation. I have learned much more about the reality of homelessness, alcoholism, mental health, and criminal justice issues in these 3 years than I had in my previous years and have a passionate desire to change the structures and ways we handle these issues to resolve them where possible and at least minimise their harm.

Efficient transport is a passion of mine. In 2006 I developed a template to provide better public transport in Auckland at vastly reduced costs and am a passionate advocate for the new technologies for public transport on arterial routes such as SKYCABS. See my website www.aucklandtransportconsultancy.co.nz for details.
