Top 5 Issues
- - Increase amount and quality of employment
A massive amount of New Zealanders are either stuck without jobs or in jobs that are inadequate to pay for the costs of living. Initiatives need to take place to increase the amount of jobs and to increase the effectiveness of New Zealand exports. - - Governmental control of finances.
This includes reducing wastage in the public sector, controlling debt and retaining state assets. - - Making referenda binding.
For too long, the people of New Zealand have been ignored on issues they have been asked about. Labour and National have both failed to change anything as a result of an overwhelming mandate from the people. - - Measures to reduce the rising costs of living
New Zealanders have had to face massively increased costs of power, food, housing, telecommunications while wages have stayed stagnant. A common sense approach is needed, looking at all options that will work. - - Repeal of the Emissions Trading Scheme
It is clear that this scheme will do very little for the environment and will substantially hurt the economy. This scheme will mean the difference between bankruptcy and surviving for farmers that have large debts.
Personal Profile
After two years of study into a five year degree, I was keen to do some work to reduce my student loan. I returned to my home town of Alexandra, and for nine months was unable to find a job, despite numerous applications and job interviews. To keep myself busy, I became more involved with politics online. I joined the Conservatives after it became increasingly clear that they matched my political beliefs most closely of all the political parties. So much so, that I wanted to do my bit to share them with the wider population.
I do have a casual job at the Stadium Tavern in Alexandra, but haven't worked after an inital flurry. I see that there is a lack of jobs for people and it is an issue that is not being effectively addressed by any other political party, many parties don't see this as a problem.
As well as being interested in politics for at least ten years, I am an avid reader, enjoying both fiction and non-fiction (history and geography mainly). I am a classically trained singer and an enthusiatic novice squash player.
