I represent a new generation of M_ori leaders committed to serving the people of Te Tai Tonga and returning it back to Labour.
I have deep connections across Ngai Tahu on hmy paternal side, and to Ngati Hine in the Far North on my maternal side. Historically my family has given significant Parliamentary service to M_ori in Te Waipounamu and Labour in the Southern M_ori electorate (1932 – 1996).
I am a passionate believer in M_ori development and in social justice. Coming from a close-knit, hard-working whanau, I have a depth of concern and service for people nurtured from a young age.
I have over 12 years experience working in M_ori economic development roles and brings a wide range of experience to my candidacy. I have led successful inter-indigenous projects between M_ori and the Pacific, including establishment of the first pan-M_ori international development NGO. I was the Chief Executive of the Federation of M_ori Authorities, advocating for M_ori land based organisations. Other roles I’ve worked in include working for Te Runanga o Ng_i Tahu within their seafood businesses, and leading trade promotion activities across M_ori business sectors. I have an understanding of legal and commercial issues as a result of my early career as a commercial lawyer with a large national firm.
Key attributes I brings to my candidacy:
Integrity, honesty and trust.
Multi-talented and offers a powerful blend of tikanga M_ori, whakapapa, and professional legal, business and leadership skills.
Wide experience in strategic development of M_ori economic interests with proven track record of results.
A real ‘people’ person who enjoys interacting with people from all backgrounds.
