I have served as the member of Parliament for Ikaroa-Rawhiti since 1999. Whilst in government, I was a cabinet minister with several associate portfolios in the Labour Government which provided many opportunities for Maori.

Over the years I have visited many iwi, hapu, whanau, and attended many hui.

Maori in Ikaroa Rawhiti are experiencing a period of dramatic change. The population is younger, the need to upskill and educate greater, and it is evident that significant inequality has left several of our families struggling to support themselves.

I’m proud to be a member of a Party that is working hard to make things better.

As the member of Parliament for Ikaroa –Rawhiti:

(a) My experience as a shearer, farmer, senior public servant, business manager, Cabinet Minister, and Member of Parliament has given me an insight into what is needed to help our people.

(b) I understand the needs of the communities from Potaka to Wainuiomata.
