Matthew Webster was born in Auckland and spent most of his childhood in Botswana and the UK. After returning from the UK in 1988 Matthew completed his education in New Zealand. He attended Victoria University and gained a Bachelor of Science (Physics & Maths). Matthew is married to Lin Li and they have three children. He has lived on the North Shore for 13 years.

Matthew has worked as an engineer for 14 years in the telecommunications industry and believes that hard work, a servant attitude and integrity are essential qualities to success in business and in public life.

Matthew has become concerned that both the current main parties are liberal on social issues and consequently misguided on financial issues and desires to see a genuine conservative voice see representation in Parliament. Therefore Matthew fully support the aims, principles and policies of the Conservative Party.

Personal Profile

To know the background and philisophies of the Conservartive Party, I have included this below.

The key principles of the Conservative Party are: Traditions and heritage are of real value. Change to alliances, laws and society should only be done after careful consideration and with the support of the people. Thrift is a necessary characteristic of good government. Government should carefully use resources and in tough times will cut spending in preference to raising new taxes or increasing borrowing. The normal state of affairs should be a balanced budget. Democracy is a foundational principle of a fair and decent society. Government should only proceed with changes to legislation that has general support of the people. Community and family are the backbone of a fair and decent society. Government should support communities and families. Long Term Thinking is essential. The decisions that we take and the things that we do become the inheritance of the next generation. It is important to look at the long term consequences of our actions so that we leave the land a better place than we found it.
