A member of the Counties-Manukau District Health Board, Lyn Murphy is ACT New Zealand’s candidate Botany.

Lyn originally trained as an occupational therapist – working in general and psychiatric hospitals, as well as providing community-based care – before going on to gain qualifications in psychology and management.

She now works as a senior lecturer in management and is currently completing her doctorate investigating the costs and benefits of medical research at Counties-Manukau DHB.

An Australasian representative on the International Society for Pharmaco-economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Asia Pacific Region Education Committee – which supports health research and education throughout the Asia Pacific Region – Lyn is also a recipient of the internationally prestigious ISPOR student award.

Lyn has been active in supporting a healthy community and her work includes membership of CCS, the Arthritis Foundation, and Paraplegics Association committees. She is also an Advisory Trustee for the Arohaina Trust for the Elderly.

As a passionate Howick resident she has championed the undergrounding of power lines with success in Bradbury Rd and Cockle Bay, the protection of the Emilia Maude Nixon Garden of Memories, the reinstatement of Shamrock Cottage as tearooms, and the restoration of Mangemangeroa Reserve.

Lyn is an elected member of the Counties-Manukau DHB, a past member of the Howick Community Board and has long championed ACT’s values of smaller Government and greater transparency and accountability.
