Helen Mulford, New Zealand First candidate for the Pakuranga Electorate. Helen and family are long time Pakuranga residents.
Professionally Helen coordinates the Advocacy Services division of Spectrum Care Trust Board who provide a range of services to people who are intellectually and/or physically disabled and their families. Her role involves advocacy both nationally and individually for families and staff. She also works with senior government officials and representatives from other disability sector providers at a national level.
Previous experience includes owning and running a tourist operation, being a Senior Negotiator with the ACC in Melbourne, Australia, working as a Legal Annotator and working with abused and neglected elderly with Age Concern, Counties Manukau. Helen has also undertaken a great deal of community based work in a paid and volunteer capacity.
Main hobby involves retraining ex-harness race horses for riding so they can gain a second life after the Race Track.
In the ten years of residing in the Pakuranga district she has become well acquainted with the issues in the area. “I feel it is a great place to raise a family, but there are areas of concern around issues such as crime, opportunities for youth and safety on our roads. As a parent of five teenage boys I would like to focus on youth related schemes within the Pakuranga electorate. Our youth are our future and New Zealand First has common sense policies that will tackle the issues head on”.
As the candidate for New Zealand First Helen will be promoting policies which ensure all New Zealanders, regardless of their background or where they come from are treated fairly and equally.
