The second verse of our national anthem contains the words “From dissension, envy, hate, And corruption guard our state” It is not an often sung verse and just as the verse is ignored, so is corruption
New Zealand, according to the Transparency International perception index, is the least corrupt in the world. The Word “perception” is the key as it relies on illusion rather than reality.
As a Private investigator and a former long serving Police officer I see the reality of the struggles for justice and rights which every day kiwis face while the politicians who should be looking after the residents interests are pampering to the needs of multinational corporations. Evidence of this is The New Zealand Business & Parliament Trust which assigns serving MPS with corporate members ‘so that there can be a deeper understanding between them’.
Few MPS would have a deep understanding of the area they represent and the people who live there. I support the notion that the MP elected by the people of an electorate represents those persons interest and should place those interests first and foremost. .
New Zealand is riddled with corruption and while we use the general population as a bottomless pit of revenue and vigorously enforce minor indiscretions while a blind eye is turned to those who engage in corrupt practices which drain the public purse .
Prosperity is something we all desire, but there are two sides to growth and the side addressing wastage and loss through deception and exploitation is not being addressed.
My association with the Maungakiekie area began in 1960 when I arrived from the Netherlands and started school at Ellerslie Primary. I grew up in Ellerslie and still live just a few Kilometres from my child hood home .
I know first-hand the issues which face a non-English speaking immigrant and grew up in Poverty which taught me the meaning of the word “budget”. As a serving police officer I gained a clear insight into people’s lives their homes living conditions and cultural needs.
As a mother I was involved in local schools and kindergartens and later youth groups, I have seen my children grow into young adults and am painfully aware of the issues which they have to face. .
As a woman I concerned at the apparent imbalance in numbers of women in Government and business alike . More than half of us are women yet the issues which are near and dear to us do not feature in the commerce driven Governance which currently exists.
Our focus should be on families ,budgets, living conditions , people issues rather than on industry and corporate growth .
I am certain that my background, knowledge and skills makes me a great representative for the people of Maugakiekie I am down to earth, approachable and come to the table with solutions. But to do that I need your vote .
Times change and so do political parties and we cannot have change if we continue to vote for parties because our parents supported them .
As a conservative party member I look forward to the much needed change that my party offers New Zealand .
We have to break the cycle .The focus needs to be on YOU and I will do everything I can to support you so that we can build a better future for all of us.
