I am proud to be the Labour member for Dunedin South. I will always do the very best I can to be a strong advocate for Dunedin, to represent the people and the communities that make up the Dunedin South electorate, and to be a strong, effective MP.

I grew up in Dunedin, went to school and university here. I started my first jobs in Dunedin and returned after time overseas to start up a small business. I am the first woman member for Dunedin South. I am a mother and a passionate Dunedinite.

Dunedin South electorate has a long and proud history. From the working-class suburbs of South Dunedin, Caversham and St Kilda, to Green Island, Fairfield, Brighton and Mosgiel, from the lush Taieri Plains to the Lammermoor Range, and Graeme Sydney’s Maniototo up to Middlemarch and Hyde which includes the beginning of the Otago Central Rail Trail and the historic Taieri Gorge Railway. The glorious coastline of St Clair and St Kilda, and the Otago Peninsula, home to some of the rarest wildlife in the world, and my home too.

Almost my entire working life I’ve been driven to work on issues that affect working people and the disadvantaged. I am motivated by a resolve to fight injustice, and I hope I always will be. And to be the best I possibly can be. I also want that for my city.

Labour is the Party with the grassroots organisation, the Party that truly represents New Zealand and the Party with the ideas and commitment to make a better, fairer life for all New Zealanders.

Strong, supportive communities lie at the heart of my vision for Dunedin and for New Zealand. Along with more opportunities and support for people, particularly our young people to reach their potential. These are core Labour values.

People want secure jobs, better wages, guaranteed superannuation and loving living stands and a society that cares for its most vulnerable. They also want their communities and neighbourhoods to be safer, more cohesive, better resourced and with strong links to public transport and other core services. That’s what I want too.

I want to work with anyone in my city who is committed to ensuring Dunedin has a strong and secure future

With new industries that provide reasons for our children to build their careers here and raise families. Decent jobs that pay decent wages.

We need to keep our existing rail manufacturing industry at Hillside.

We need strong, cohesive communities that have a voice.

And we need good schools where all children can achieve their potential.

I want to contribute to making NZ a fairer place to live. Labour’s policies mean our strategic assets will stay in NZ hands; we will address the rising cost of living and keep costs like electricity affordable.

Labour has a strong and fair tax plan to pay off debt and make sure no-one gets left behind. A Labour government commits to being more open, transparent and honest with its citizens.

We can and should aim to be a country that leads the world. We can determine what our niche industries of the future should be and invest in them to make sure they succeed.

Dunedin should be the education capital of New Zealand and a commercial hub for the South Island. Let’s aim high. If we don’t, we won’t achieve anything.
