I am the Labour Party candidate for Rodney. I come from a long family line of Rodney residents and continue to live in the wider Rodney district. I served Rodney as an elected representative for 15 years between 2005 and 2010. I was Deputy Mayor of the Rodney District Council, and Deputy Chair of the Auckland Regional Council. I chaired various committees including the ARC's Transport Committee and the Regional Land Transport Committee which led the development of the Regional Transport Strategy, the blueprint for Auckland's Transport system for the next 30 years. I was also a champion, as Committee Deputy Chair, of Auckland's Regional Parks.

I have degrees in Political Science (with First Class Honours), and Philosophy from Auckland University, where I also taught politics. I also studied for her PhD in Local Government Politics. I have a Certificate in Environmental Law.

I has been a supporter of both Greenpeace and Forest and Bird for over 20 years, serving in various governance roles. I have also led significant environmental campaigns herself, most notably working with the Labour Government to protect Mauis and Hectors dolphins. It was the successful resolution of environmental issues while in Government that led me to support the Labour Party.

I see the state of the marine environment and undeveloped coastal areas as pressing considerations for the furture government. I support all efforts to improve our natural and cultural environment, both the great wild outdoors, but also urban form. I am a strong advocate of sustainable transport for Auckland.

I’m campaigning on improved transport in Auckland (public transport and walking & cycling), and environmental protection.

In my spare time I am an artist, and enjoying tramping, kayaking and cycling.
