Chris Tremain was born and raised in Napier. He attended Taradale Primary School and Taradale Intermediate before moving to Napier Boys High School for his secondary schooling. At Napier Boys Chris excelled both academically and on the sports field where he was a member of the school 1st XV. In his final year Chris was the school head boy. Chris went on to Massey University to further his education, where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accounting) and a Diploma of Business Studies (Marketing).

Chris has been a successful Napier businessman who has been involved in a number of prominent Hawke’s Bay businesses including Tremain Real Estate, Tremain Travel and Colliers International. Chris remains a shareholder and director in Tremain Real Estate. “While my commitment to the business is limited to about ½ a day a month this keeps me connected to the real world of business” says Chris. As a result I am able to speak in the House with genuine first-hand experience of the difficulties businesses face and the policies needed to grow our economy”.

Chris has a strong record of community involvement, including having been the Chairman of Sport Hawke’s Bay, Old Boys Marist Rugby Club, the Guardians of Hawkes Bay Fisheries and the Eskview Junior Rugby Club. “I understand the importance of community” says Chris. “I’m a family man first and foremost so getting out there to support sports clubs and other community groups is critical in my role as an MP”. Chris has built a reputation over the years as a charity auctioneer and assists many local charities to raise money in the community. He has also been the initiator and driver behind now annual community events “The Tremain Corporate Triathlon” and the “Hawkes Bay Christmas Lights Competition”.

Chris won the Napier Electorate in 2005, the first National Party candidate to do so since 1951, and secured Napier with an increased majority of 9018 in 2008. He was elected as the Junior Whip for the National Party in 2007 and in 2009 became the senior whip, a role he has now held for over two years.

"Being a Member of Parliament is a real privilege" says Chris. "I thank the people of Napier for giving me the opportunity to represent them."
